Silver
Jewelry
Jewelry
is a personal
ornament, such as a necklace, ring or bracelet, made from gemstones,
precious metals or other materials. Although during earlier times
jewelry was created for practical uses such as wealth, storage and
pinning clothes together, in recent times it has been used almost
exclusively for decoration. The first pieces of jewelry were made from
natural materials, such as bone, animal teeth, shell, wood and carved
stone.
India
is an unrivalled center for cut and polished Gem beads and Gem Jewelry -
the ultimate place to go for Silver jewelry and Fashion jewelry. Jewelry
was often made for people of high importance to show their status and,
in many cases, they were buried with it.

Jharokha |
|
A
jharokha
(or
jharoka)
is a type of overhanging balcony used in Indian architecture,
typically Mughal architecture and Rajasthani architecture. Jharokhas
could be used both for adding to the architectural beauty of the
building itself or for a specific purpose. One of the most important
functions it served was to allow women to see the events outside
without being seen (Purdah). Alternatively, these windows could also
be used to position archers and spies.

Carpet
The
art of weaving developed in the region comprising India at a time when
few other civilizations employed it. Excavations at Moenjodaro and
Harappa - ancient cities of the Indus Valley civilization - have
established that the inhabitants used spindles and spun a wide variety
of weaving materials. Some historians consider that the Indus Valley
civilization first developed the use of woven textiles.
Carpet
weaving may have
been introduced into the area of present-day Pakistan as far back as
the eleventh century with the coming of the first Muslim conquerors,
the Ghaznavids and the Ghauris, from the West. It can with more
certainty be traced to the beginning of the Mughal Dynasty in the
early sixteenth century, when the last successor of Timur, Babar,
extended his rule from Kabul to India to found the Mughal Empire.
Under the patronage of the Mughals, Indian craftsmen adopted Persian
techniques and designs. Carpets woven in the Punjab at that time made
use of motifs and decorative styles found in Mughal architecture.

Rug
Rug
making
is an ancient craft, and covers a variety of techniques. Kilims are
flat tapestry-woven carpets or rugs produced from the Balkans to
India. Kilims can be purely decorative or can function as prayer rugs.
The
weave is almost identical with that of modern kilims, and has about
fourteen threads of warp and sixteen threads of weft to the inch. The
pattern consists of narrow stripes of blue, green, brownish yellow,
and red, containing very small geometric designs. With this one
exception, so peculiarly preserved, there are probably very few over a
century old.

Mojari
Mojari
is a generic name of handcrafted ethnic footwear produced in India.
These are made by artisans mostly using vegetable tanned leather. The
uppers are made of one piece of leather or textile embroidered and
embellished with brass nails, cowries shells, mirrors, bells and
ceramic beads. Even the bonding from the upper to the sole is done by
cotton thread that is not only eco-friendly but also enmeshes the
leather fibers with great strength. Some product range also uses
bright and ornate threads.
In
ancient times these were worn by multitude and royalty. As it evolved
through the centuries and is being produced by individual artisans,
products vary in designs and colours. It encapsules cultural
diversity, local ethos and ethnicity.

Painting
Painting
is the practice of applying color to a surface (support) such as, e.g.
paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer or concrete. However, when used in an
artistic sense, the term "painting" means the use of this activity in
combination with drawing, composition and other aesthetic considerations in
order to manifest the expressive and conceptual intention of the
practitioner.
Painting
is used as a mode of representing, documenting and expressing all the varied
intents and subjects that are as numerous as there are practitioners of the
craft. Paintings can be naturalistic and representational (as in a still
life or landscape painting), photographic, abstract, be loaded with
narrative content, symbolism, emotion or be political in nature. A large
portion of the history of painting is dominated by spiritual motifs and
ideas.
